I sent my controller to Mr. John Gerling and was pleased with his services. Mine was toasted but he fixed me up with a new and improved version for a very fair price. Communication with him was outstanding and prompt. I hope I never need his services again but would use him again if I do. I would recommend him to the users of mini-lathe.com.

John,

Got the controller yesterday and thank you for the fast service and it works fine. Was working with it for a while and it works great. I thought I would let you know that it works you find out when it doesn't work right , so I sent a thank you .

Ran the motor ohm tests that you suggested, they turned out good.

Plugged everything in, seems to work fine. Also seems to start up faster

without over loading thee breaker like it did before, even with the heavy 5"

chuck installed.

Speed is steady and goes right up to 3000.

Thank you for the fine service.

Regards,

Hey John,

The lathe motor control arrived in the mail yesterday.

Package arrived in good shape.

Reinstalled it, and in a few minutes the motor and lathe were working+

It ran smoothly, both slow and at some speed.

If I recall, before your repair, the motor began to spin as soon as both

switches were on, with the rheostat at full slow/low position.

Now, with the rheostat at full slow/low position, the motor is off, then

begins slowly and smoothly after about 30 degrees of rotating the rheostat.

I like that.

So, congrats on a good job.

You was right the prolem was the motor not the card and I am to blame because I did not mark the backside of motor before I dismounted it,

but I think Zieg are to blame too, they could have borred in same pins so you only could mount it in one way. If I put the bushes in 90 degrees

to the motorpools, the motor run. But there are no way you can change the brushes through the hole tn the latheframe and the motor cover. you can not even see them.

So I am not sure this is right.

I want to thank you for all the help you have given me to solve this problem!

Regards

Thanks again for checking out the board, and especially for so generously sending along
the replacement opamps with it. It arrived here today, and since my replacement board hasn't
yet arrived I decided to give it a try. I can definitely see why it isn't worth it to try to
replace those things. All those little pins! After a few, uh, challenging hours I got the old chips
off and the new ones on (though not looking very pretty), and I put it back in the mill.
Now I have speed control, but it won't turn off! So, I guess it'll still be useful as a backup if the new one gives out someday.

Once again, thanks for your help. With electronic things like this, which are pretty much a mystery to me,
it's nice to know that something really is a serious problem, and the board really does need to be replaced, rather
than it being something simple like a loose connection.

Hi John

Received the unit in good order today.  All resistance tests fell within acceptable limits.  Wires attached as indicated and power applied.

I'm now back up and running (insert big grin here).  You were right - I like this system better than the original.

Many thanks once more for your fast and knowledgeable assistance.

Best regards - Gus
